Our transnational report on teachers’ transversal skills is out!

We are excited to announce the release of the VETCompass Transnational Report on Transversal Skills for VET Teachers, Trainers, and Staff!

Following months of extensive research at national, European, and international levels, the VETCompass partnership has compiled a comprehensive report that maps the transversal competences essential for VET educators today. The report is one of the first major milestones of the project, laying the groundwork for the design of the VETCompass Assessment Framework and digital assessment tool.

Through a combination of desk research, fieldwork (including interviews and surveys with VET teachers across partner countries), and a comparative analysis of existing competence frameworks, the Transnational Report identifies the 10 key transversal competences that are critical for effective, modern VET teaching. It also explores current practices in competence assessment, highlights gaps in provision, and presents recommendations for supporting the continuous professional development of VET educators across Europe.

The research revealed that transversal competences—such as communication, collaboration, adaptability, digital literacy, and learner-centred innovation—are increasingly recognised as vital to high-quality VET provision. However, formal tools for assessing and developing these competences remain limited, highlighting the importance of initiatives like VETCompass.

The Transnational Report is offering valuable insights for educators, training providers, policymakers, and all stakeholders interested in strengthening VET systems.

This publication marks a major step forward for the project as we move towards finalising the VETCompass Assessment Framework and developing our innovative game-based assessment tool. By grounding our tools in solid research and practitioner experience, we ensure that they are relevant, practical, and ready to make a lasting impact in the field of vocational education and training.

We invite all interested stakeholders to explore the findings and join us in supporting the professional development of VET educators across Europe.

Stay tuned for more updates as VETCompass continues to build tools that empower education for the future!
